Prospect for Bidders for Responding to Assam Tenders and Promoting Business

A unique feature of Assam economy is backwardness amidst plenty. While the state is rich in natural resources and it provides nearly 25% of the requirements of petroleum products of the entire country, the economic growth or growth of per capita income has not maintained pace with the rest of the nation. Yet Assam tenders can offer substantial opportunities for entrepreneurs looking forward to make it good in business with such tender bids.

Economic Problems
Assam in fact has been facing economic problems from time to time. While economy of the while the overall growth of the economy of the country was 6% during the same period the growth of Assam economy stood at only 3% and even registered a negative growth during the sixth plan period.

Opportunities Offered
It does not mean that Assam tender does not offer opportunities for the bidding entrepreneurs. Moreover in the current decade the economy is showing signs of improvement. Major opportunities are offered in the areas such as –
  • Over the years scope in the agricultural sector in Assam has gone down.
  • However, the scope is quite substantial in tea industry which remains one of the major agricultural products of agricultural sector in Assam.
  • Manufacturing industry is one where the scope is gradually increasing.
  • Oil, natural gas, and oil products offer one of the best opportunities for tender bids.
  • Another sector is the tourism industry and despite recent political disturbances, Assam hosts quite a substantial number of inland and overseas visitors every year.
  • Last but not the least is the Assam Government and Public Sector undertakings that offer a lot of scopes in form of Assam tender.

Some of the agricultural tenders that are floated regularly in Assam are –
  •  Export of tea and such other products, especially the indigenous variety Camellia Assamica.
  • Other agricultural products for which tenders are floated for procurement of seeds, pesticides, agricultural equipments and such other articles or those are exported overseas or transported inland to other states; are rice, mustard, nizer, jute, rapeseed, sweet potato, banana, potato, papaya, areca nut and turmeric.
  • Tenders are also floated regularly for transportation and sale of citrus fruits, leaf vegetables, useful grasses, spices, and herbs.

Assam tender is also available in the industrial sector though it is not one of the most industrially advanced states in the country. Physical and political isolation from the neighboring countries and states as well as from other Southeast Asian economies has been some of the major reasons of industries not taking off in Assam. However,
  • Assam is major producer of crude oil accounting for around 15% of the total crude oil output of India.
  • Assam has four oil refineries and is the second highest producer of natural gas in the world.

Several other industries are also coming up in the state that includes chemical fertilizer plant, petrochemical industries, paper mills, sugar mills, cement plant, and cosmetic plans. In result the chances for tender bids on Assam tender is growing and simultaneously are growing the chances of bidders to make business promotion by responding and winning these tenders.
